10 Pre-School Teachers Recognised at the 10th Mother Tongue Languages Symposium

The 10th MTL Symposium promoted the use of Mother Tongue Languages as living languages through family, school and community engagement, while recognising 10 outstanding pre-school MTL teachers.

Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, Mr Heng Swee Keat, launched the 10th Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) Symposium on 28 August 2021. Held annually since 2012, the Symposium adopted a hybrid format, with a small physical audience and virtual participation for members of the public.

Themed Our Mother Tongues as Living Languages, the Symposium aims to strengthen the learning ecosystem for MTLs by encouraging daily use and lifelong learning through stronger connections between families, schools and the community. It was co-organised by the Ministry of Education, CPCLL, MLLPC and TLLPC.

Ten pre-school teachers were recognised with the Outstanding Pre-school Mother Tongue Language Teacher Award, with six receiving the Outstanding Award and four receiving the Merit Award. The recipients were selected from 99 nominations.

The Symposium also featured a live panel discussion on creating immersive MTL learning environments at home and in the community. Other highlights included an online MTL Challenge, an interactive Online Quest for children, over 40 digital exhibits and 30 sharing sessions featuring education experts, speakers and parents.
