27 August 2022
The 11th Mother Tongue Languages Symposium promoted joyful MTL learning through educator and community collaboration, while recognising 14 outstanding pre-school MTL teachers.
Minister for Education Mr Chan Chun Sing launched the 11th Mother Tongue Languages Symposium (MTLS) on 27 August 2022 at Republic Polytechnic, with members of the public also able to participate virtually through the MTLS website. Themed A Garden for Joyful Discovery, the Symposium focused on how educators, parents and community partners can work together to create an engaging and nurturing environment for young children to learn and appreciate their Mother Tongue Languages (MTLs).
At the Symposium, 14 pre-school teachers were recognised through the Outstanding Pre-school Mother Tongue Language Teacher Award, with eight receiving the Outstanding Award and six receiving the Merit Award. The recipients were selected from 139 nominations. The award, jointly presented by CPCLL, MLLPC and TLLPC, recognises teachers who make MTL learning engaging and nurture children’s interest in the languages.
MTLS 2022 also featured a live panel discussion on creating joyful MTL learning environments, as well as new activities for children, parents and educators, including interactive workshops, online engagement sessions, storytelling sessions and the Explore@MTLS Activity Package. The Symposium website also featured over 40 online exhibits, close to 30 sharing sessions, an interactive online quest and a digital learning resources sales booth.
