Deepening Appreciation for Malay Culture at Malay Finesse Carnival 2019
15 July 2019
The Malay Finesse Carnival 2019 promoted greater appreciation of Malay culture through interactive activities, a mass dance involving 30 schools and an infographic competition.
The Malay Finesse Carnival on 13 July 2019 offered visitors an opportunity to deepen their understanding of Malay finesse and culture in everyday life. Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Social and Family Development, Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, was the Guest-of-Honour.
Organised by MLLPC as part of the Malay Finesse Project (Projek Kesantunan Melayu), the carnival aimed to cultivate greater awareness and appreciation of Malay culture. Held at the Plaza at National Library, the event was open to the public and featured interactive booths showcasing aspects of Malay social customs and etiquette.
A highlight was an attempt to set a Singapore Book of Records achievement for the largest number of participants in a Malay dance, featuring a mass performance combining Tarian Inang and Tarian Ronggeng by students from 30 schools. The carnival also hosted the finals of the Malay Finesse Infographic Competition, involving 120 Secondary 1 and 2 students from 35 schools.
