Launch of Project 'Orang Singapura' & Grant Call for Story Books to Promote Local Cultural Heritage and Literature

MLLPC launched Project Orang Singapura and a new grant to promote Singapore’s cultural heritage and expand quality Malay Language reading materials.

The Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee (MLLPC) launched Project Orang Singapura and a grant call for the publication of Malay Language storybooks on 28 October 2023, with Guest-of-Honour Dr Maliki Osman, Second Minister for Education, delivering a speech at the event.

Commissioned by MLLPC, Project Orang Singapura features a collection of 10 songs by late local composer Zubir Said, rearranged by local music producer Reyza Hamizan and performed by local artistes. The project aims to promote the learning and appreciation of Singapore’s cultural heritage, with the collection distributed to schools and Institutes of Higher Learning.

The grant call supports the development of quality Malay Language storybooks that reflect Singapore’s local context and culture. Successful works will be distributed to primary and secondary schools, as well as Institutes of Higher Learning, by December 2024.
