New Story Writing Competition for Students to Draw Inspiration from Late Composer's Songs

The Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee (MLLPC) launched a short story writing competition inspired by the songs of late local composer Zubir Said, providing students with an opportunity to appreciate his musical legacy and translate their inspiration into creative works. The competition was launched by Guest-of-Honour Dr Mohamed Maliki Osman, Second Minister for Education and Chairperson of MLLPC, at Woodlands Regional Library.

Open to students from primary to tertiary levels, the competition encourages participants to develop their writing skills while exploring Malay cultural heritage through themes drawn from Zubir Said’s songs. Winners were announced at Fiesta Bahasa on 26 July 2025.

The event also saw the launch of two children’s novels, Bukan Mimpi and Kecoh Di Lereng Bukit, produced through MLLPC’s first 2023 grant call for Malay Language storybooks. A second grant call was also announced to support writers in developing and publishing new works.
