Opera Estate Primary School and Yusof Ishak Secondary School emerged as champions of Katapella 2025, Singapore’s national Malay choral recitation competition.

Opera Estate Primary School and Yusof Ishak Secondary School emerged as champions of Katapella 2025 in the primary and secondary school categories respectively, with each winning team receiving a trophy and $3,200 worth of book vouchers.

The competition saw 50 primary and secondary schools participate, with 12 schools advancing to the finals. Students showcased their linguistic talents and creativity through group choral recitations in Malay.

Organised by the Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee in partnership with Mediacorp, Katapella aims to deepen students’ appreciation of the Malay language and culture beyond the classroom. The finals were broadcast on Mediacorp’s Suria and MeWatch on 15 and 22 August 2025.
